| Photographer Shawn Frederick, holds a post graduate Masters Degree in Photographic Sciences, and has created quite the collection of work over the past twenty plus years. Of which has taken him to more than 30 countries and four continents. He's shot professionally since 1984, and is one of the original "Extreme / Action Sports Snowboarding" photographers that began in 1986. He's also one of the most fun, energetic and passionate photographers working today. Shawn has been published in more than twenty books and has co-authored nine books with long-time writing partner, Bill Gutman. His most recent book is the "Pocket Idiots Guide to Great Photography" by Penguin Publishers in NYC. When Shawn's not off on some far away production, or in the studio, he is either giving a lecture at a university, guiding a photographic workshop or mentoring an apprentice. Shawn is the consummate photographer, this is what he does best, and loves the most. This has always been his passion and it shows in his day to day life. Shawn is also the resident photographer and photographic mentor at the Society of the Arts Foundation. Shawn photographs and articles have been published in over 40 magazines around the world, some of which include Hotrod, Car & Driver, Sports Illustrated, ESPN Magazine, Oprah, People, Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Surfer, Surfing Magazines, Mens Journal, Rolling Stone, Transworld Snowboarding, Mens Health & Fitness and many others. Book publishers include Harper Collins, Simon & Shuster, TOR Books, Workman Press, St Martins Press, Kensington Press, Capstone Press and Scholastic Books, amongst others. Shawn consistently works with celebrated individuals in his work. Some of which include Kelly Slater, Ben Harper, Blues Traveler, Legendary Surf Icons Gerry Lopez and many world touring pro surfers, The many Andretti 's, Dennis Haskins/Saved by the Bell, Clare Kramer/Buffy the Vampire Slayer, pro Snowboarder Shaun White, Olympic Gold medal Skiier Johnny Moseley, Motorcycle Designer Roland Sands, Playmate of the Year - Jayde Nicole, NASCAR Phenom Dylan Kwasnieski and many, many others. He's also worked with Fortune 500 Executives, Playboy Playmates and Victoria Secret Models. Shawn's work has a vividity and clarity that matches his zest for life. Much of this color work is a staple to who he is and how he sees the world he lives. From his work in advertising and portraiture he has earned numerous national awards, including a Belding Bowl, numerous AAF Statues, ADDY's and dozens of Citations of Excellence. Those that work, and know Shawn, would most certainly say that he has a keen and swift sense of humor, but he also exudes a very relaxed and focused demeanor on set when shooting. He has an uncanny ability to make comfortable even the most cynic of subject, client or executive. He is also one of those guys that fits in everywhere he goes and with everyone he meets. "He just makes you feel comfortable, confident and a part of the creative process when working with him", many have said about their time spent with him on set. |
